Communications

There are a numerous options available for communications. Many factors have to be taken into consideration such as location of Central Controller, location of the Fuel Sentry, and location of Fuel Sentry to closest building that has communication capability, LAN or Internet availability - either CAT5 with a RJ45 terminator or wireless network, and phone line availability. Options are described below.

Local

Central Controller and Fuel Sentry located at same location.

  • Direct Wire - either fiber optic (preferred) or hard wire from Sentry to Data Converter next to Central Controller
  • Wireless Radio - one radio attached to Sentry Housing and the other to the Data Converter next to the Central Controller
 

Central

Central Controller has the WinCC software on it and a Trak Data Converter

  • Central Database
  • Polls the Fuel Sentry
  • Add/Edit/Delete Data
  • Reports, Imports, & Exports
  • Only One Central Controller needed by the customer
  • Uses Windows PC (doesn't need a dedicated computer
 

LAN

Central Controller and Fuel Sentry NOT located at same location.

  • Central Controller site needs a LAN or Internet connection
  • Fuel Site needs a network drop available at a building close to the fuel island. The Network Cable is plugged into the Trak IP Serial Communication Device and connected to the Sentry Data Converter

Phone

Central Controller and Fuel Sentry NOT located at same location.

  • Connect via phone line / modem
  • Central Controller needs a phone line
  • Fuel Site needs a phone line. The phone line is plugged into Data Converter near the Sentry

Sentry

  • Controls Dispensers, Authorizes Fuelers & Stores Transactions
  • Communicates to Central Controller
  • Connects directly to Central Controller if Local via wireless or wired (fiber optic or hard wired)
  • Connects via wireless or wired (fiber optic or hard wired) to the Trak Data Converter if Remote.
  • The Data Converter is located in a nearby building that has communication; either LAN/Internet or Phone line.
 

Sentry's Data Converter

Only needed for Remote Sentries

A Trak designed multi-function data conversion box - size 6" by 2", not a PC.

It is connected to the Sentry via wireless or wired (fiber optic or hard wire). The Data Converter is located in a building near the Sentry that has Communication.
